Mustangs Go 2-0 in San Antonio Friday

The Western New Mexico University women's volleyball team started the 2008 season with a bang, defeating Tarleton State University in five games (25-20, 18-25, 25-18, 12-25, 15-13) and the University of Incarnate Word in a quick three (25-20, 25-18, 25-23) at the Alamo City Classic in San Antonio Friday afternoon.

Versus Incarnate Word, the second match of the day, sophomore Natali Murdock (Phoenix, AZ/Pinnacle High School) (Phoenix, AZ) led the way with 11 kills off of 23 attempts.  Giving her the ball was freshman Chelsey Alpough (Torrance, CA/South High School) (Torrance, CA).  Alpough registered 22 assists and a team high ten digs. 

Newcomers Yacine Meyer (Pukalani, HI/Seabury Hall High School) (Pukalani, HI) and Dreanne Shaw (Wailuku, HI/Kamehameha High School) (Wailuku, HI) combined for 11 kills.  Overall, the Mustangs hit .234 while the Cardinals struggled with .149.
